History:

From Ghent , Joseph Renson is captain for Sabena who enjoys wildlife parks. He decided to found in 1975 his own zoo. Located near Spa, Coo and Banneux, the city Aywaille seems to be the ideal site and he acquired 164 hectares of land. Feared the oil crisis, foreign investors withdrew from the project yet well advanced. Alongside his career that still holds 11 years, Joseph Renson landscape the area in stages. Rhinos and hippos are the first African animals acquired by the captain. The first couple of African elephants made its debut in 1989. In 1995, SPRL Monde Sauvage Safari Deigné shows interest to exploit Remouchamps caves located in the same municipality whose operating license expires. She made the most attractive offer with an annual municipal fee 7-9000000 according to support development work required by the municipality or by the future manager. SPRL Monde Sauvage Safari Deigné is yet more than 5 million BEF (over € 124,000) to the town for non-payment of entertainment tax, while the previous year it makes a profit of 717,000 BEF (€ 17,775) to 38.9 million BEF turnover (€ 9.65 million). SPRL, new manager, takes possession of the premises on 1 January 1996. Since its opening in 1975, three events have tarnished the image of the Monde Sauvage. In May 1982, a tourist has been eaten by lions and another was seriously injured when a bridge overcoming the lions broke. In April 1995, Douglas Robertson, a Scottish mahout working in park died, trampled by elephants. In December 2013, a snow leopard, escaped from its space, was shot by a guard, provoking the ire of animal rights associations
